Kosuke Hori, a former member of the Liberal Democratic Party's House of Representatives who was elected from the former Saga 3rd Ward, centered on Karatsu City, passed away in November 2023. A funeral sponsored by Karatsu City was held on January 14th in memory of the man who loved Karatsu and devoted himself to its prosperity, and the citizens who attended regretted their farewell. He was first elected as a candidate for the Liberal Democratic Party in the 1979 House of Representatives election, and after serving as Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Minister of Home Affairs, and chairman of the party's political affairs research committee, he retired from politics in 2014 and passed away at the age of 89. To mourn his death, Karatsu City held a funeral sponsored by the city on January 14th at the Karatsu City Cultural Gymnasium, with around 700 people in attendance, including citizens and prefecture officials.
